Journalist: Your headline says the new program cuts energy use by a quarter. Did the trial prove that? Researcher: It observed a 24 percent lower average in participating buildings, compared with their own previous year. We did not assign buildings randomly, and weather differed slightly. Journalist: But you would still say the program reduced use? Researcher: I would say use was lower during the program. That wording reports the result without claiming the program caused all of the difference. The estimate is promising, and the pattern held after we adjusted for temperature, but unmeasured changes may remain. Journalist: What would strengthen the causal claim? Researcher: A longer comparison with matched buildings and transparent data. We are planning that now. The current result supports further testing; it is not a guarantee for every building.

Resumo da aula
A pesquisa encontrou consumo médio menor durante o programa, mas o desenho não prova que ele causou toda a diferença; a equipe planeja uma comparação mais robusta.
